Ainmiller facade

When I was still a student, I digitized the old plans of the project, and over the years I was able to follow the development of the complex with all its conversions, improvements and adjustments.

The historically precious building facing the old town was completely renovated in 1980, but the magnificent facade remained untouched at the time, down to the paintwork.

Since 2015 we have started with the first preliminary investigations and together with the LfD (District Office for the Preservation of Monuments) we have developed a (sustainable) renovation concept for the facade. The final start of construction was in summer 2020.

Basic concept for restoration

Since only a few sub-areas or components of the two phases from the 19th century are preserved, the basis of all measures is the comprehensive preservation and conservation of the historical inventory. It is essential for this to first take more recent entries of materials that are questionable from a conservation point of view. The restoration was necessary on the one hand, but at the same time offered the chance to aesthetically improve the overall appearance of the façade, without losing its historical features. This was achievable through the conscious use of high-quality historical plastering techniques. Roofing removed in 1971 and the coat of arms ornamentation reconstructed. A secondary coat of the current color was not simply applied. A color version (with a suitable binding agent), which was conceptually developed on the basis of the existing mapping, based on historical circumstances.
